When analyzing ABG's we do pretty good at determining if our gasses represent a metabolic or respiratory acidosis or alkalosis.  We look at the pH, then the PaCO2, then the Bicarb, and the we make our "diagnosis."  But if that's all we do, we're missing a HUGE part of the equation
